¿Es posible asignar un ancho de widget a la mitad del ancho de pantalla disponible, y hacerlo usando xml declarativo?

Usando el diseño de restricciones

Añadir una directriz
Establezca el porcentaje en 50%
Limite su visión a la Guía y al padre.

Dar ancho como 0dp para asegurarse de que su tamaño es exactamente según su peso esto asegurará que incluso si el contenido de las vistas de los hijos se hace más grande, todavía estarán limitadas a exactamente la mitad(de acuerdo con su peso)

Si tu widget es un botón:

<LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:weightSum="2"

            android:layout_weight="1"
            android:text="somebutton"/>

    <TextView android:layout_width="0dp"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:layout_weight="1"/>
</LinearLayout>

Asumo que quieres que tu widget ocupe una mitad, y otro widget ocupe la otra mitad. El truco es usar un LinearLayout, estableciendo layout_width="fill_parent" en ambos widgets, y estableciendo layout_weight al mismo valor en ambos widgets también. Si hay dos widgets, ambos con el mismo peso, LinearLayout dividirá el ancho entre los dos widgets.
