¿Cómo puedo encontrar dónde están instalados los archivos gem?

Me pareció útil obtener una ubicación del archivo de la biblioteca con:

gem which *gemname*

Después de instalar las gemas, si desea saber dónde está una gema en particular. Intenta escribir:

 gem list

Podrás ver la lista de gemas que tienes instaladas. Ahora usa bundle show y nombra la gema para la que quieres saber la ruta, así:

 bundle show <gemName>

Para completar otras respuestas, la gema gem-path puede encontrar la ruta de instalación de una gema en particular.

Instalación:

gem install gem-path

Uso:

gem path rails
=> /home/cbliard/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.1.5/gems/rails-4.0.13
gem path rails '< 4'
=> /home/cbliard/.rvm/gems/ruby-2.1.5/gems/rails-3.2.21

Esto es muy útil ya que se puede utilizar para grep o editar archivos:

grep -R 'Internal server error' "$(gem path thin)"
subl "$(gem path thin)"

Puede comprobarlo desde su símbolo del sistema ejecutando gem help commands y luego seleccionando el comando adecuado:

Puedes engañar a gem open para que muestre la ruta de la gema:

VISUAL=echo gem open gem-name

Ejemplo:

Supongo que rvm (y rbenv) guardan la ruta a gem home en una variable de entorno. Si corro

env | grep GEM_

Consigo

En MAC OS, los archivos Ruby pertenecientes a una gema están presentes en el

/Library/Ruby/Gems/<Ruby_Version>/gems

Directorio.
