Tradicionalmente se ha considerado la primera aplicación AJAX al cliente Web que tiene la herramienta de trabajo en grupo Microsoft Exchange Server aunque sin lugar a dudas Google es uno de los grandes responsables de la popularización de AJAX, al usarla en varias de sus aplicaciones, entre las que se cuentan Google Groups, Google Suggest, Google Maps y el servicio de correo electrónico gratuito Gmail.
